Teen Uses Spray Paint, Causes Damage to Numerous Properties

New Castle County Police have arrested a 15 year old Newark teen and charged him with multiple counts of criminal mischief after officers discovered that he used spray paint to damage property within the developments of Heritage Park and Pinecrest over the weekend.

(Wilmington, DE) On Sunday morning (02/03) at 7:15 a.m., County Police responded to the aforementioned communities for numerous reports of properties that had been damaged overnight. When officers arrived, they learned that a theft from a motor vehicle had occurred at a home in the 2200 block of East Huntington Drive and the following properties were vandalized, some of which were spray painted with vulgar type statements.

a stone wall at the intersection of Heritage Park Drive and Milltown Road
Through evidence observed at the crime scenes and information gathered during the investigation, officers were led to an apartment in the 5500 block of Heritage Park Drive in the Heritage Court Apartment complex.  When they arrived officers made contact with the occupants.  While inside the home, police located property that had been linked to the theft from motor vehicle, a black spray paint can, and a friend of the residents, later identified as a 15 year old teen, who was observed to have black spray paint on his hands.

The juvenile was then taken into custody and transported to county headquarters. During an interview police were able to confirm his involvement in the crime.  Police were also able to determine that two other subjects were possibly involved.

The 15 year old teen, who resides in the unit block of Winterhaven Drive in the Autumn Park Apartment complex in Newark, DE, was charged with graffiti to real or personal property, eight counts of criminal mischief, theft and ten counts of conspiracy in the third degree.  He was arraigned and released on $12,000 unsecured bond.
